The world that is Pellucidar is discovered as the young David Innes and the old professor Perry pass through the earth's crust to the inner world while test driving a mechanical "prospector." This world is inhabited by sloth-like "Dyryths" and agile man-apes with tails. The man-apes capture them and take them to their village.
